I have been very fortunate to have my grandparents be apart of my life. Yesterday I spent the day outside helping my grandma do yard work. I wish they would call me when they need my help. Of course, they never do. I have to tell them that I’m coming to help them. To which, they don’t mind, and neither do I. I like doing things for them, They gave their lives to help raise me, the least I can do is a little bit of yard work. Although I wish I could do more, give them more. I always say when I hit the lottery, whenever that day decides to come, I will do more. But for now, I give many thanks to them, for everything.
Thank you both for helping my mother raise me – we’re forever grateful. Thank you both for standing by my side and supporting every decision I make. It’s satisfying to know that as I’m deciding who I want to be and where I want to end up, I will have unconditional support and love from you, even when you don’t agree with me.
Thank you both for sending me Birthday cards every year, calling me and singing happy birthday to me in the morning, and calling to check on me when you haven’t heard from me in a couple of weeks. These things not only put a smile on my face but remind me just how much you care. Thank you, papa, for my love of late-night junk food and football. For my unusual need to be sarcastic. And for my strong ability to be different, without caring what other’s think.
Thank you both for turning your home into a wonderful playground for me to grow up in. Thank you for taking me in as your own grandchild, although I am your niece. Thank you for making sure I never (ever, ever, ever) leave your house hungry. Whether it’s a holiday or just a pop-in visit, I’m always treated like the princess, even when I’m hounding papa to stop smoking. Thank you both for giving me a family I couldn’t live without. Thank you both for always putting family before yourselves and showing us how generous people can be. You never miss an opportunity to provide for others, Something I now pride myself on doing. Thank you for going to all of my field trips with me growing and showing me how to be self-sufficient. Thanks to papa, I can pretty much build anything I want all by myself.
Thank you both for being grandparents I can laugh, have fun and keep secrets with. Thank you both for my love of coffee, if it were not for you I don’t think I’d be this addicted. Thank you for passing on the love from my great-grandparents, to whom, I never got the chance to meet, but I know they would love me the same. Thank you both for showing me what it means to rely on God and practice my faith. Your constant prayers mean everything to me and have helped me through difficult times in life.
This doesn’t even begin to describe the love and gratitude I have for my grandparents. You mean more to me than you’ll ever know, so thank you for simply being you.
