The great depression lasted from 1929 to 1939. It was the worst economy struggle in the history of this industrialized world we live in. But I believe we are living in the great depression right now. No wonder so many people smoke cigarettes. We are living in a world full of technology-focused Hershey Hunters where everyone is socially inept. Everywhere you look people are walking, talking, and driving all while staring at their phones. The world is a sad place to be right now. And it’s only getting worse, day by day.
The great depression we are currently living in is destroying the world around us. Everywhere you look, people are filled with anxiety and depression all on behalf of misused technology. No one knows how to think or behave properly anymore. People are more concerned about visual ‘likes’ rather than real human relationships. Everyone stares at their phone rather than the person in front of them.
And what’s happening to the world? Mass shootings are breaking out everywhere. Our president is ‘tweeting’ ignorant things to us via social media. Parents are no longer parenting their children, but handing them a tablet to teach them instead. Learning is no longer something we need to do because if we want to know the answer to something we can just google it right in the classroom.
For the past week, I’ve been reading The Distracted Mind: Ancient Brains in A High-Tech World. And I have to say it’s fucking fascinating. Everyone needs to read this book. It should be mandatory for teachers and doctors to read during school. In the book, Dr. Adam Gazzaley and Dr. Larry Rosen spell it out for those who need it, in great detail as to what technology is doing to our already distracted minds. As human beings, we were never meant to be able to process all of the information we are processing on a daily basis by means of technology. Our minds are already distracted, and technology has just made it worse.
I mean, who fucking cares what’s happening on the other side of the world? Who fucking cares how many likes you get on facebook? Or how many retweets you get on twitter? None of that shit fucking matters at the end of the day. But you can’t even look around you without people staring into their phones. Excuse my harsh language but I think it’s necessary in this case.
I mean, I go hours and hours without my phone each day. Especially when I’m working. I don’t surf the web all day long or check in on facebook every 10-15 minutes. I don’t even have a facebook. And honestly, I think it needs to be shut down. I don’t care about anything other than what’s in front of me each and every day. And I think if more people would be like this, the world would be a way better place.
It’s time to wake up people. The world isn’t going to change itself. We got ourselves into this mess, we can get ourselves out. Everyone wants to know when this continuous chaos of havoc we are living in is going to end. It’s going to end when you put your laptop away, set your phone down, and start to pay attention to the people around you. That’s when it will end. Until then, you can keep doing the same thing and expecting the same results.
