I’m in Memphis, TN for the next two weeks before heading back to Michigan for hopefully what is the last time in this nightmare that I’m trapped in. So if you know me you’d know that one of the first places I had to stop was none other than the home of – Graceland. I love me some Elvis Presley. Which is just another thing I can thank my Papa for.
The first time I stopped at Graceland was when I first arrived in Memphis. Then I noticed you couldn’t really see anything because it’s gated off and they’ve got a huge wall surrounding the house (for those of you who haven’t been there). So I grabbed out my phone to see how much the tours were and they wanted anywhere from $60 to $150 for a 45-minute tour. Can you believe it?
That was just crazy to me. Obviously, that wasn’t going to happen. But after a little more research I found out that they let you into the meditation garden from 7:30 to 8:30 A.M. Ok cool, I’ll just go then I thought. And that’s exactly what I did. So if you’re in the area and don’t want to pay (or can’t afford to like most people) you can go in the morning and walk the garden like I did.
Upon arriving at the gate I met a lady named Mary. A crazy lady but a fun lady none the less. We walked the meditation garden for about an hour chatting and sharing our stories. She was just aimlessly roaming around the United States like I was. We had a lot in common. After we talked each other’s ears off in Elvis’s backyard we decided to go get coffee and McDonalds down the street.
Normally I wouldn’t be down for McDonald’s (not a huge fan) but she was on her way to D.C. to meet Daymond John and it was close. So anyway we ended up talking for two hours. And I’ve got to say, she’s one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met. Boy did she have some stories to tell. While we were sitting there talking I couldn’t help but think, man my life is awesome. I get to do so many cool things and work while I do it.
Sometimes it’s almost unbelievable the things that happen to me on a daily basis. Some good, some bad. But always unbelievable. I really can’t even put it into words. But I guess that’s the beauty of it, right? My life is awesome.
