I recently came to a place in my freelancing career, a place where I never thought I would come to. It’s a place where things need to change in order for me to continue to do what I do. I never thought I would be here because I love what I do. I still love what I do, I just hit a little bump in the road and now I need to fix my flat.
Maybe it’s because I allowed myself to become the “how to” girl and deep down inside I know I’m so much more than that. Not that there’s anything wrong with being the how to girl, it can be rewarding at times. But it’s also very self-explanatory (literally) and after a while, it just stopped challenging me.
So I was laying in bed watching American Housewife when I thought back to my middle school days. I think about those days often. That’s where my love for reading and writing really began thanks to my 8th grade English teacher. And anyway, I remembered a poetry assignment I had and that’s when it hit me. I should start writing poetry.
Poetry is the perfect thing to help me get my creative juices flowing and get rid of that “how to” image that I’ve created in the freelance world. Last night I wrote a poem, my first one since 8th grade to be exact. And although it’s nowhere near Edgar Allen Poe, it felt good to write it and I’m happy with it.
What gets your creativity spinning?
